Updated: Jun 21, 2018

Jon Faine’s co-host is presenter of Radio National’s First Bite program, Michael Mackenzie.

Their first guest is founding Director of Sense T, Ros Harvey.

“We’re working with the food industry, with agriculture, to pull together data to allow farmers to make better decisions,” she says.

“For example, we’re providing tools to indicate how much salt in the water actually affects how an oyster grows. This allows farmers to adjust where the oysters are in the water to make sure that they optimise production.

“And for the first time we are measuring the heartbeats of oysters, because it’s really hard to know what’s going on inside their shells. What happens to an oyster’s heartbeat when you change water levels, temperature and salinity?”

Here’s another question for you… how much have you spent on one meal alone?

The next guest to join the conversation is author, writer, editor, critic and academic, Ronnie Scott.

His latest book is called Salad Days.
